May Glam Bag Review

I finally received my May Glam Bag from Ipsy. If you haven’t read my past reviews make sure to check them out, I review and give my first impression of each product.

Click from March and April Reviews!

If you haven’t heard about Ipsy before, it is $10 a month and you receive 4-6 products to test and a makeup bag. For the next 48 hours, there is no wait list to subscribe, so sign up for next months bag.

IMG_1197.JPG

This months bag was travel themed and a new shape. Instead of the normal makeup bag, Ipsy decided to go for an envelope bag with images of the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, an elephant, and other fun places.

IMG_1182.JPG

This first product is something I have tried before. The Smashbox X-Rated mascara. I love Smashbox products especially their mascaras. This will be perfect to have for vacation this summer, I’ll have to keep myself from using it until then!

IMG_1184.JPG

The second product in my bag was the BelláPierre Cosmetics Nude Gel Lip Liner Pencil. When I first opened this lip liner to swatch, the tip of the product broke off, so I wasn’t very impressed with that. But after resharpening the pencil and swatching it, the pencil seemed very creamy and was a your lips but better color. Apparently this product is waterproof, so I hope it will be a nice liner for nude summer lips.

IMG_1185.JPG

I am super excited about this next product I received in my bag, the Épicé International Hydrating Mask. My skin gets super dry during the end of spring and summer, so having hydrating masks around is always nice. This is the perfect size to bring with you on any trip you have coming up to pamper you and your girlfriends. I can’t wait to try this mask.

IMG_1188.JPG

If you have read my past Ipsy posts, you know how much I love receiving brushes. This Slmissglam Small Contour W07 Brush will be great to apply bronzer for a natural bronzed look. I might also try this brush for highlighter. I love the white and pink bristles and gold detail, its so cute and super soft!

IMG_1190.JPGIMG_1191.JPG

I’m not sure how I feel about this last lip product. The PEEK Beauty
nom nom natural lip plumping balm in Miracle is a gluten and cruelty-free product. I don’t normally go for plumping lip products, but I am interested to see if this will actually make my lips look fuller. It smells really good though, so that is a plus.

In total, this isn’t my favorite Glam Bag… I am excited for the brush and face mask, but the other products didn’t excited me too much. Maybe once I try them I will change my mind.

I would love to know what you go in your Glam Bag this month or if you aren’t subscribed, let me know if you are interested in trying it out!

Carnival on 27th: FIT Block Party

Every year before finals week, the Fashion Institute of Technology throws a block party for the students. Last year the theme was FITchella, a take on Coachella, but this year the theme was Carnival on 27th. There was a ton of food and lots of carnival themed fun.

IMG_1111.JPG

For the carnival I wore this Free People top I found at Nordstrom Rack and a simple pair of leggings. For shoes, I wore these cute platform sandals from Kenneth Cole.

IMG_1126.JPG

I went with a ton of my school friends including Abby (Beauty Before Boys) and Allie (Arrived Allie), whom you have seen on the blog before.

IMG_1100.JPG

I also went with my friend Nelly (Fashionaccro), who is in my major.

IMG_1088.JPG

Make sure to check them all out!!

Besides the fun company, there was even better food!

IMG_1144.JPG

The first food truck was Big D’s Grub Truck. They served tacos and dumplings. I tried the chicken tacos and chicken dumplings, both were so good!

IMG_1177.JPG

The second food truck we tried was Wafels & Dinges.

IMG_1159.JPG

I ordered a waffle with strawberries, chocolate, and whipped cream. It was almost as pretty as it was tasty.

IMG_1168.JPG

One of the funniest things they had was a clown on a unicycle. He was riding in and out of students all across 27th street.

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Colour Pop First Impression

You probably have heard about the makeup brand Colour Pop, every blogger and youtuber has talked about the makeup brand. They are known for their low price points, amazing color range, and great quality.

I finally decided to give this brand a try and bought a few products from their website.

IMG_1056

I decided to try two of the Lippie Stixs, a Sculpting Stix, an Ultra Mate Lip, and a Creme Gel Colour.

IMG_1064.JPG

This first Lippie Stix is in the color Hype Girl, which is a matte finish.

IMG_1066

The second Lippie Stix is in the color BFF, which is a glossy finish.

I have tried both of these Lippie Stixs, and for a first impression I didn’t love how they applied onto the lips. I really want to love these, especially since they are only $5 each! I am going to continue to try wearing them for longer periods of time and see how I like them. Hopefully I will have a better review of them in the future.

IMG_1061

Colour Pop has two Sculpting Stixs, one for contour and this one for high light, each for only $5! I decided to try the high light shade called Releve. So far I have only tried this as an inner corner highlight, but I love it! The size of the tip is perfect for the inner corner of the eye. It is a great color to brighten and open the eyes.

IMG_1062.JPG

Another lip product, but unlike the Lippie Stix, I absolutely love this Ultra Matte Lip in Midi. This matte lip is not drying and dries down super quick. The color does not exactly match the color shown on the website, it is a little darker, but none the less a beautiful color. For only $6, this ultra matte lip is an amazing buy!

IMG_1058

I wanted to try something a little different for spring and summer, so right before I checked out online, I decided to but the Creme Gel Colour in Cry Baby. For just $6, I thought this would be a fun replacement to the harsh black eyeliner I typically like to wear.

IMG_1082

Here are some swatches of the products on my fair skin.

From top to bottom: Cry Baby, Revere, Midi, Hype Girl, and BFF

IMG_1067

I ordered my makeup on a Wednesday and got my package by Monday, which is super quick shipping. I have heard others weren’t happy with Colour Pop’s shipping and customer service, but I have no bad words for the brand.

Overall, I think Colour Pop is going to become a favorite brand and I am excited to order more products from them.

I Changed My Major…

So I did it… I changed my major…

If you don’t know already, I am currently studying Accessories Design. I am still set to get my associates degree next month. But as for next two years, I am going to be studying Fabric Styling for my bachelors degree.

This past year has been so hard, I realized that designing isn’t what I want to do with my life… It isn’t that I don’t enjoy accessories design, I just realized it doesn’t make me happy and I don’t want to design the rest of my life. I see how talented and successful my friends are going to be, and I don’t see the same passion for design in myself.

While some people may say, “Jami, you seem so happy with what your doing!” But that isn’t very true… This past school year has been so difficult and there have been times I was home with to my parents telling them I didn’t want to return to school. I am the type of person to hide my feelings and only appear happy. But, I am over the moon with my decision to switch majors. I believe that I have made the right choice for myself, and all I can do is hope the people around me will be supportive of me.

It wasn’t super easy to switch my major. When I decided to put in an application to Fabric Styling, I had to give up my spot in Accessories Design, meaning if I didn’t get accepted I would be packing my bags and leaving New York City and FIT. I had a meeting about a month ago with the head of the department and had to show her a portfolio project which she critiqued right in front of me. Thankfully, she and I got along pretty well and she accepted me into the program.

You may be wondering what Fabric Styling is. It is kind of hard to explain, but to keep it short, it is a mix of styling and textile design. The FIT website says “The BFA program explores design concepts, trend research, aspects of product design, and the preparation of presentation boards. In hands-on classes taught by industry professionals, you’ll study the role of fabric in fashion and learn about fabric design and styling.”

what-can-be-new-beginning-picture-quote

If you aren’t happy with your path in life, I believe you are the only person who can change it and make it better. That is what I am doing with school, and I can only hope that things turn out well.

April Glam Bag Review

It’s that time of the month! I’m talking about my Ipsy Glam Bag, not what you’re probably thinking… If you don’t know Ipsy bags are only $10 a month and you get a bag as well as 4-5 products.

This is my second blog post review, if you haven’t read my March review be sure to check it out here!

IMG_0784.JPG

First let me say how cuuuutttee this bag is! I will be carrying this as my new makeup bag that I carry everyday in my handbag.

IMG_0772.JPG

The first product in this month’s bag was a Luxie Beauty brush. This is a 522 Tapered Highlighter. I have already started using this brush and I am already in love! I love how soft the bristles are and how it applies my highlight without going too heavy. This brush on the website retails for $24, thats double the cost of the Ipsy bag! This brush alone made the bag great, for me, this month.

IMG_0775.JPG

This next product I haven’t had the chance to test yet. The JOr’el Parker Fango Mud Therapy mask is infused with a blend of moisturizing and exfoliating antioxidants, leaving you with super soft skin. I am probably going to try this mask tonight and see if it helps with my clogged pores.

IMG_0777.JPG

Who doesn’t love a good highlight? I have just tried this Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Highlighter this morning. So far I liked the application, but I feel the color wasn’t great for me at the moment… Maybe once I hit the beach and get a nice tan it’ll suit my skin much better. I love the packaging, the cream stick makes it so easy to throw in your handbag and touch up throughout the day.

IMG_0781.JPG

Everyone has heard of the Moroccan Oil Treatment, but I had never tried it until receiving it this month. I have tried it twice so far and I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I am not a huge fan of the smell and it is very thick. My hair does look nice after applying it, but I don’t think this is a product that I would go and purchase myself.

IMG_0779.JPG

I love this last product! The Tarte LipSurgence lip creme in Wonder is such an amazing product. Crayon lipsticks are one of my favorite lip products and this color is just so beautiful. Its a great mix between a bright red and a berry.

This was a really good bag this month. I love testing new products without having to spend so much money on the full size.

I want to hear about some of your favorite products, whether you got a glam bag this month or just discovered a new makeup favorite.

The High Line

One of the perks of a photography class in New York City is visiting fun places around the city. My class recently visited the High Line, one of my favorite spots.

IMG_0636.JPG

IMG_0639.JPG

If you have never heard of the High Line, it’s an old train track that was built in 1934 but stopped running in the 1980s. In 1999, the Friends of the High Line was founded by Joshua David and Robert Hammond. Residents of the High Line neighborhood came together to advocate for the High Line’s preservation and reuse as public open space.

In 2002, the renovations began and in 2004 it opened to the public as a park.

IMG_0640.JPG

IMG_0650.JPG

The wildlife and plants are so beautiful and you forget that just 30 feet below you are cars and tourist rushing around the city.

IMG_0652

IMG_0653

IMG_0675.JPG

My favorite thing to do while at the High Line is to people watch. While many tourist visit and enjoy the park, many New Yorkers can just relax.

IMG_0677.JPG

IMG_0681.JPG

IMG_0744.JPG

It wouldn’t be a Styled Student post without an outfit shot.

IMG_0755.JPG

The top I was wearing was a long striped t-shirt with splits up the sides from Zara, Forever 21 leggings, and my trusty Circus by Sam Edelman booties. I paired the look with a black jean jacket from Free People and my Kenneth Cole fringe handbag.

IMG_0757.JPG

The High Line is such a cool park on the west side of New York City, if you haven’t been there yet, I would recommend visiting.

Always Busy…

I know, I haven’t posted in a while! But I’ve been busy… I’m a full time student, I work, and I just started interning.

I have always been a hard worker, if you have been reading my blog for a while you know I have been working since I was a junior in high school. Since moving to New York City, where the price of everything is crazy expensive, I need to work to support myself. I work retail for a large designer brand in their flagship store in Soho, which keeps me busy in my free time and helps pay for things like food, school supplies, and other things. But recently I started interning for a startup called StyleKist, which I work 2 days a week.

IMG_0573.jpg

I want to share what it’s like to work and intern at the same time, while being in school full time.

This semester I am taking 6 classes, including: yoga, handbags, marker rendering for accessories, photography, belts, and art history. It’s a lot of work and I get assigned a lot of hands on projects. I spend a lot of time sketching and coming up with ideas for my next project or seeking inspiration.

I work 3-5 days a week, mostly on the weekends. I work on commission, so in order to make money I need to sell! It can be stressful at times, making sure customers are happy, making sure I made my personal goal as well as the store’s goal for the day, as well as dealing with crazy people. Some of those crazy people are my coworkers, but they just make my job more fun.

About a month ago, I was offered an internship with a startup company called StyleKist. My job is to come up with content, write blog posts, and help with social media. I know, it doesn’t have to do with my major but I wanted to try something and experience different aspects of the fashion industry.

IMG_0579.jpg

While it may be difficult to keep up with everything, I find that being organized and writing everything down helps. I know a lot of people like to use the calendar on their phones, but I think carrying an actual planner keeps me on track better.

FullSizeRender-3.jpg

My suggestion to anyone thinking of working and/or interning while in college, make sure you have the time and commitment. I know plenty of people question whether I can make it work, but so far I have been able to.

Monochrome in the Spring ~ 3.27.16

Happy Easter to all who celebrate it today.

Although I don’t celebrate Easter, I just wanted to share a quick Outfit Of The Day with you that is perfect for the holiday or any spring day.

My look for today is a monochrome look featuring dark denim and this gorgeous white top I found at Express. I also found another top at Express, check out the store because everything in the store is 40% off! This white top has two long panels that flow over the lower cropped section. I love these jeans I found at Urban Outfitters, also on sale! These are the most comfortable jeans I own and adorable with the split detail at the ankle, which shows off shoes perfectly.

IMG_0349.JPG

I added my favorite faux leather jacket that I have owned for years from Steve Madden. The black leather added a little edge to the girly and flowy top.

IMG_0356.JPG

Couldn’t leave the house without some sunglasses. These sunnies were actually a gift from my cousin Hope. I love the shape of these and how big they are to block the sun.

IMG_0352.JPG

I am in love with these new shoes from Kenneth Cole. They are super comfortable because of the wedge and the treaded sole. The combination of crocodile embossed leather and black espadrille wedge is so different and fun.

IMG_0354.JPG

This look is perfect for any spring day, whether you are spending it with friends at brunch or while spending Easter with family.

March Glam Bag Review

If there’s one thing I love almost as much as fashion, it’s beauty. I once asked my mom why I loved makeup so much and she said it’s because “Makeup has no size”. While a cute top may not fit, or a store my not have your size jeans… the beauty counter will always have something that will work on you.

I love trying new products and I found that subscription bags are the easiest way to try new brands. I have been subscribed to Ipsy for a few years now, but have only now gotten to sharing the products with you.

IMG_0322.JPG

This month was called “Hello Spring”. Every month, you receive a makeup bag with products. This month the bag was a super cute combo of teal and hot pink, perfect for spring. I also received 5 products ranging from hair to makeup and tools.

IMG_0329

The first product is the NYX Liquid Suede cream lipstick in 08. I love how creamy and pigmented this lipstick is, I can’t wait to wear this color on my next night out. It is suppose to be waterproof and infused with avocado oil and vitamin E.

IMG_0325

The next product is the Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil . I am very excited to try this, but so far I love the smell and the texture seems very rich on the back of my hand. Since it is spring break, I plan on using this while curling my hair for the perfect beachy waves. It supposedly maintains frizz-free hair for 3 days, so those waves will stay beautiful for the rest of break.

IMG_0332

This next product I am not as excited about, the Beau Gâchis® Paris’ Cosmetic Eyeshadow Brush. I have a lot of makeup brushes, some I prefer to use more than others. I love a shadow brush that is dense and packs shadow on really well. As far as I can see, this brush isn’t very dense. But maybe it will be good for blending shadow, I still need to give it a try. According to the Ipsy review, this brush is handmade and can be used for liquid, cream, and powders.

This Vera Mona Lotus Eyeshadow in Clover is a gorgeous pink-peach. I don’t normally wear pink eyeshadows, but I would love to give this a try. If it doesn’t work on me as an eyeshadow, I would also use this as a blush. This is the perfect travel size product to throw in your handbag for touch ups during spring break.

IMG_0327

Last but certainly not least, the Pixi by Petra Blush Duo in Rose Gold. This blush duo is perfect for a spring and summer glow. I would wear both colors together for an all over cheek glow or use the rose gold as a blush and the champagne color as a highlight.

I am excited to try all of these products this month and can’t wait to see what the April bag has in store for me. If you are interested in subscribing to Ipsy, which I forgot to mention is only $10 a month, you can click here!

Let me know if you liked this review of this month’s Glam Bag because I can certainly start doing these monthly.

Spring Break in Mexico?!

Midterms are over and Spring Break is finally here. While some other college students may be partying on the beaches of Mexico, I’m just excited to head home for a few days. Before heading home, Abby and I decided to have one little adventure around the city.

We headed downtown near the World Trade Center and found an adorable Mexican restaurant called El Vez on Veset Street. Even though I could be in Mexico partying, I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant with mosaic benches and low hanging string lights.

The food was even better than the atmosphere! I ordered a chicken enchilada while Abby ordered a massive burrito, both of us bringing nearly half home!

IMG_0216

After lunch, we found this manmade park by the river.

IMG_0272

It wouldn’t be a Styled Student blog post without showing my outfit.

IMG_0234

I wanted to dress down this asymmetrical dress with a pair of Kenneth Cole white sneakers and my favorite accessory, a vest. If you have been reading since last spring, you know I love pairing vests with dressier looks to dress down the look.

IMG_0239

Don’t let my outfit of laugh confuse you, it was frigidly cold in New York City. I am ready for spring to permanently be here.

IMG_0244

I always have so much fun exploring new parts of the city and trying new restaurants. If you live in the city or have any recommendations on where to go next, let me know in the comments!

My next few posts will be about my few days back home for Spring Break. Make sure to check out my Instagram to stay updated on when I post new blogs.

Until Next Time..
